On the 23rd and 24th, 3 Rotaractors from the Rotaract club of KIE (Vumi, Annet and Felix) and one from The Rotaract club of SFB-Kigali (Jane) attended RYLA in Bujumbura. The event was very well organised and we are very greatful for the hospitality and generosity of the Bujumbura Rotaractors.
Topics covered The application of the four way test in life, Leadership skills, culture, Private and public sectors among others.
The Leadership training was held on Lake On lake Tanganyika, allowing us a spectacular view of mother nature and the unbeatable beauty. Sounds of hippos flashing out water could be faintly heard from a considerable distance as water waves soothingly maneuvered to the lake shores.
The hard long days of sitting training participation were refreshed and washed away by bujumbura's most catchy and exciting venues. Club toxic went crazy with team Rwanda storming the club and exposing modern day dance styles, only known to dance legends setting onlookers in to endless gaze. The entire Club gathered around forming circles and cheering their hearts out as team Rwanda stole their attention. They deserved to be charged for such breathtaking dance show but lets call it 'Service Above Self'.
The other spot is stands as another reason to visit Bujumbura, the beach, so amazing. The scorching sunshine that seemingly threatens to blister skin is rather enjoyed and craved for. The waters make it a point to cool you off. Back laying on the sand, sun glasses on, hands crossed over your belly and mind drifting to relaxed state is all that runs in my head every now and then. I have no doubt its the same with the other rotaractors. Such unforgettable moments. Its a lot to fill you in dear readers but its better you catch the next bus/flight and find explorer it, others wise i bring it all to your fingertips and seem as if you have are already there yet its not the case.
All in all, we had great time in Bujumbura and RYLA was such a learning experience for us. All sessions were in french but we had translators to help us. At the end of RYLA, the President of the Rotaract club-KIE (Vumi) won the Rotary Youth Leadership Award.
