If we can't Kick or throw, at least let's plant.

Tree planting is one of the most basic of environmental acts. It embraces the beauty of nature. With a few weeks of preparation, the long awaited day appeared. On Saturday/16/2013, Rotaract Club of KIE along with the Rotaract clubs of Kigali city and SFB Kigali planted a total of 50 trees at the Kigali Institute of Education.

Tree Planting in progress
The project served as note to combat global warming and conserve the environment.
Both decoration trees and fruit trees were planted. As it clocked 2:20pm, it was men/women at work for rotaractors. Some  were digging holes around designated areas to plant trees , others pretending to be sorting already sorted tree plants and others pausing for pictures with their hands  struggling to reach for and cuddle with handwork tools like spades and hoes.

Pausing with tools for flash lights(get to work please)
Despite the slippery and muddy grounds, activities proceeded without fail. Some rotaractors had the privilege of planting trees in areas designated as VIP; a good example is the Administration gardens. Peter, President Keza and CP Norryn flourished in pride and honor as they gathered the soil around the trees in the VIP section.

It is venues like Rotaractor where you find young people directing all their efforts towards a productive cause with relentless commitment to yield positive results.
Every living soul should at a point in life extend a helping hand or give back to the community, bottom line is; “Serve above Self”. Rotaract provides vast opportunities to do all that and feel useful not only to yourself but to the community at large. Join us now, it’s never too late.

By 4:30 pm, the tree planting chapter was closing, giving room to chapter two of the project; Games, aimed at enhancing rotaractors physical fitness and ensuring good health.
Rotaractors played against Kigali institute Of Education school teams, both football and basket ball. Contrary to popular beliefs, or let’s just say unlike others games where victory is the driving power, these games were fun and physical fitness driven. That shouldn’t count for the Rotaractors terrible loss/defeat though. Yes, it was a terrible defeat especially for basketball and trust me you don’t want to know the figures.
Kigali Institute of Education school teams clearly smelt victory with complete football attire, regular training and experience. The rotaractors teams sensed big losses like seconds before kickoff, visibly evidenced by the fear in their faces (some pictures can testify, no fiction).

Warming up in unlikely outfit yet trembling with fear.
But how could a football team be expected to win with gentle Italian shoes, canvas, sneakers and to the very worst, bare feet? (Refer to pictures). The pitch was so muddy and slippery ensuring that averagely two rotaractors hit the muddy ground in at least every after 5 minutes making them appear like brick layers.

looks like some one is all messed up. Oops!

Never the less, the football match ended 2-1 in favor of the school team. Not too bad for a team (rotaractors) short of a bunch of things, Right?
The cheerleading team did their best to the very last minute but all in vain. They deserve all the gratitude for their fabulous and refreshing cheering despite the players’ disappointment. I am sure they all wish they had invested all that energy in a more encouraging and promising venture.

As the sun found its way through the horizon in the west clearling way for the moon, the project (tree planting and sports) was approaching the finishing line in shinning colors. It was a huge success. Minutes later the school teams and the rotaractors gathered at the school for refreshments in celebration for the good work done and sharing constructive words. The other success is that the project helped in recruiting new members who felt the need to be a part of the jolly good fellows in service.
Sincere thanks to all who contributed to the success of this project, the Rotaract club of KIE is forever grateful for your enormous support and generosity.
The Journey of Service goes on………………
